Soohan Yang
“Success is most often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable”; Sooahn states that this quote by Coco Chanel illustrates what it means to reach your fullest potential as an FCCLA member by pushing yourself to the hardest. As an FCCLA member, she attended two State Leadership Conferences and one National Leadership Conference, winning first place in Career Investigation at NLC in Seattle. She has also served as Vice President of her chapter last year with over 50 members, and helped organize weekly meetings, host rose fundraisers, and mentor members with their events.
As a student entrepreneur for a vaping cessation and anxiety-relief device and an aspiring Geriatric Surgical Oncologist, Sooahn hopes to attain degrees in human biology and business. She also loves developing her family
consumer science skills and leadership through hands-on experiences, which is why she is currently taking a Child Development course as a teaching assistant in her chapter adviser’s class. Sooahn’s ultimate career goal that she discovered through competing in the Career Investigation event, other than becoming a Geriatric Surgical Oncologist, is to provide affordable healthcare for underprivileged families through funding and policy advocacy.

Kettle Falls High School

Gen Zavala
This year I received the award recognizing that I completed five Power Of Ones! Two classes I enjoy and would recommend taking is world history and horticulture. I currently play golf with a friend of mine, and I also like going to the gym when I have the free time. My current hobbies include jogging and drawing. I have also been a featured artist at the Old Apple warehouse in my community, something I am very proud of being able to accomplish. In my freetime, you could usually find me studying at the library or helping my community in any way I can, whether that is helping at a youth center or helping someone move in.
I am not really sure where I want to go to college, but maybe if I had a desired job it would be art curator because art is something I have always been passionate about. Overall, FCCLA has been a big part of my life, and I am hoping to continue to make the most of it. “You may not have chosen your surroundings, but you can choose to find life in them.” (Morgan Harper Nicolas)

Leah Richards
Before taking on the challenge of becoming a state officer Leah has been holding leadership positions in her school, chapter, and community and continues to do so. Leah’s future goal is to one day go into the health sciences pathway being either a nurse or a psychologist. Leah enjoys spending her time reading fantasy books, hanging out with friends, and volunteering especially if it’s working with children.
FCCLA has allowed Leah to connect with her sisters while they all are a part of the Selah FCCLA chapter and compete in Competitive Events.
One fun fact about Leah is that she has never broken a bone.

Kaylee Caessens
I love to raise and show pigs at my local fair and spend time with my family and friends. I have been a member of the Pullman High School FCCLA chapter for 3 years. My sophomore year I was Public Relations for my chapter and my junior year I was chapter President. My sophomore year I competed in Nutrition and Wellness and got silver, at SLC 2025, I competed in Chapter Service Project Display with 2 other members from my chapter and we got gold.
I do not know what college I will attend once I graduate high school but I know I will find the right fit for me. I want to get an associate’s degree in diagnostic medical sonography to become an ultrasound technician. I love medical imaging and think it is fascinating which has brought me to this degree.
My dream to become a state officer came from my sister who was the 2023-2024 Vice President of Region 9, following her another member of my chapter was able to become a state officer as well so I knew I had to follow in their footsteps to get Pullman FCCLA out there. I love helping my community and can’t wait for all the new experiences I get serving Washington FCCLA.

Elizabeth Flynn
Throughout my past two years in FCCLA, I have participated in the national program Families First Level One, putting on a mental health retreat for my school, as well as doing a project for Parliamentary Procedure Level One, receiving silver and qualifying for nationals. I have also completed all five units of Power of One. All these projects have taught me how to work with diverse groups of people in different and diverse situations and how to lead different sorts of projects.
Outside of FCCLA, I have done ballet at the dance studio TCAB (Tri-Cities Academy of Ballet) for the past 10 years and have been involved with the dance company MCB (Mid-Columbia Ballet) for the last 3 years, which has given me experience in performing on stage in front of a crowd.
I have been in the Dual Language program for the past 8 years, learning Spanish since kindergarten, which helps me communicate better with my family and some of my peers. I participate in band, jazz band, and treble choir in school—playing trumpet for the past 3 years and singing in treble choir for 1—and I am in my school’s CTE advanced leadership class.
During the summers, I have volunteered for the Columbians Drum and Bugle Corps for the past 2 years, costuming their performers and helping set up prop crew, which has taught me how to organize large amounts of things effectively.

She is also passionate about healthcare and helping others, and she aspires to pursue a degree in nursing or early childhood development, with hopes of joining medical relief and disaster response teams in the future.

Jacob Encinas-Gutierrez
As a third-year member of FCCLA, my journey began near the start of my high school experience when I joined my chapter. Upon joining, I discovered my passion for leadership and community service. Over the years, I have been able to attend multiple regional, state, and national conferences, where I gained the skills of public speaking and teamwork. Through these experiences, I was thrilled to develop the desire to take on greater responsibility within this organization, leading me to run for a state officer position.
In addition to my leadership capability, I have volunteered in multiple community service projects, strengthening my commitment to making a positive impact. I believe that through FCCLA, we can prepare the future generation of leaders with the skills and confidence to tackle challenges head-on.
Ultimately, through my time in FCCLA, I have been able to discover my goals regarding my career path. I want to attend the University of Washington to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences. I want to become an FCCLA adviser to have the opportunity to mentor and inspire students, helping them develop leadership skills and confidence. I also want the ability to guide them through community service projects and competitions, encouraging a sense of teamwork and responsibility.
Becoming an FCCLA adviser is my dream because it allows me to inspire others, foster leadership skills, and—most importantly—make a lasting impact on students.

As the Region 6 Vice President, I am committed to supporting fellow members through their own FCCLA journey. I hope to promote FCCLA values and help others reach their full potential by taking the growth opportunities FCCLA provides. I am also at Eastmont High School taking some AP classes and am on the girls swim team. After high school, I hope to attend the University of Washington and graduate with an engineering degree.

This year, I am our FCCLA chapter treasurer and part of the Family Consumer Sciences (FCS) Advanced Leadership class that organizes many significant school events. In this class, I co-chaired a hat, sock, and glove drive. We made and received items to donate to our community. I also organized a job shadow at a personal injury law firm where I interviewed employees, went to our local court houses, and gave a presentation.
I play the cello in my 7th grade orchestra ensemble and am a part of an advanced choir ensemble. I was also a part of the volleyball and dance team.
Last year, our group competed in the FCCLA National Program, Family First. We organized a Family Balance Retreat, where we brought awareness about various mental health topics and talked to parents and students who attended.
This year, we competed in the Star Event Parliamentary Procedure and our team will attend nationals. I also received recognition at our state conference for completing the five Power of One units.
I look forward to attending the National Leadership Conference as a state officer and part of the executive council. Last year, I was able to meet many amazing members and advisors. This year I look forward to connecting with many more chapter members and executive council members across the nation.
FCCLA helped me be more confident with public speaking and more independent as a young adult. I am excited to serve Washington State FCCLA and Region 8.
